The Leadership Blind Spot That’s Costing You More Than You Think...
Most leaders think they have a good sense of their strengths and weaknesses.
The real problem?
Blind spots aren’t weaknesses you know about; they’re the ones you don’t.
And those unseen habits?
They silently erode trust, slow decision-making, and weaken teams.
I Learned This the Hard Way
A few years ago, I was leading a high-performing team. I thought my communication was crystal clear.
But in a quiet 1:1, a trusted team member said:
"Chris, we hear you, but don’t always feel like we can challenge your ideas."
That was my wake-up call.
I wasn’t leading a conversation -- I was leading a monologue.
3 Leadership Blind Spots (And How to Fix Them)
🔥 Blind Spot #1: You’re Overcommunicating… But Not Actually Connecting
The Problem: Talking a lot doesn’t mean your team is aligned. Many leaders mistake volume for clarity.
Fix It: Instead of assuming understanding, ask:
👉 “What do you need from me to do your best work?”
Then listen more than you speak.
🔥 Blind Spot #2: You Reward Speed Over Strategy
The Problem: Fast decisions feel productive, but are you solving symptoms or root causes?
Fix It: Before making a big decision, pause and ask:
👉 “Am I fixing the fire alarm or putting out the fire?”
🔥 Blind Spot #3: You Assume Silence Means Agreement
The Problem: If your team isn’t challenging you, it’s not because they agree --they don’t feel safe speaking up.
Fix It: Normalize disagreement by asking:
👉 “What’s one thing I might be missing?”
Your Leadership Audit:
This week, reflect on these three questions:
✅ Where have I been assuming alignment but not checking?
✅ What’s one area where my team hesitates to challenge me?
✅ How can I create space for real, open feedback?
Because great leaders don’t just work harder -- they see clearer.
